Digital Alteration
I chose the picture of OJ Simpson's mug shot that appeared on the cover of Newsweek and TIME. I chose this picture because I found it interesting that TIME magizine would alter the photograph of him to make him appear scarier. I guess it is understandable that a more intense photograph may sell more magazines, but I think that the information that he committed a murder is scary enough without the menacing aura of his digitally altered photograph. This picture came from his mug shot and was altered by TIME magazine.

That is an interesting point Emily, the information about the murder should be scary enough without having to manipulate this photo.
I agree with your comment that it was unecessary to alter his mug shot. I also think it is funny that they would make him seem even darker and scarier than his original picture. For me, the change in this picture didn't really effect my view of OJ.
Emily,
I agree with the point that you and Adriene both made. OJ Simpson is scary enough already! It's rather humorous that TIMES did that. I think they probably ended up selling more magazines rather than losing credibility.
I chose the same one and I completely agree. I think it's also a reflection of society's stereotype views.
Do you think this is harmful? Why or why not?
